TRUTH BASED APPROACHES

CREATING POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTS, MANAGING RELATIONS & TEACHING LEADERSHIP/PSYCH SKILLS

Every teacher, Coach, or Administrator seeks to understand and implement the strategies and techniques that support individuals and groups in creating the best possible environment for learning and performance. This comes down to truly understanding the research and application of developing and managing relationships (individual/group) , as well as breaking down and building up complexity in what makes for effective and responsible athletes and people. This requires understanding, modelling, and teaching the RIGHT THINGS (See Effective & Progressive Curriculum Outcomes) at the RIGHT TIME, and most importantly… in the RIGHT WAY!

THE TRUTH ABOUT APPROACHES TO LEADERSHIP/PSYCH SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

RIGHT TIME: APPROACHES TO TEACHING

Context is king when it comes to learning. When we iterate, we create (or recognize) a context in which a skill is required. Within this learning context a good coach/teacher is able to translate the situation by supporting the student/athlete in seeing cues, applying principles/skills, all while “naming them into being” (Lemov, 2020). Once this has been achieved context can be manipulated (iterated) to create additional opportunity to create practice opportunities (controlled to randomised) to automate skill/response.

RIGHT WAY: TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP MODEL

The reason TBA focuses on THE TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOURS MODEL is the fact that it supports psychological development theory broadly. In considering Intellectual, Emotional, Moral, and Leadership Identity Development Theories, one can reasonably conclude that a starting point of study may differ, yet the principles of learning supported in each theoretical area for the creation of positive learning environments/cultures are consistent!.

An additional positive if the interrelation of the TLB’s! When we intentionally addres one, it is likely we meet student/player need in others. In this way the complexity of intentional management of group dynamic is simplified through understanding of these concepts!
